How to get into Employment Insurance (EI) Second Career program to pay for School or Training Classes?
Employment Insurance (EI) programs are available to people who are willing to go back to school. Employment Insurance (EI) will pay you to go full-time. You can also go to a full time training schools for a variety of jobs. Employment Insurance (EI) will only pay for Full-time School or Training. This is the important part to getting Employment Insurance to pay for School. Do not work when you are on Employment Insurance (EI). They Say "If you can work 20 hours part-time you should be able to find 40 hours work" But if you take your full claim and Do not work during your Employment Insurance (EI) entitlement period, then you will have what they call “barriers to employment”. This is important if you are looking to get funding from Employment Insurance (EI) for school.
Over last year they have advertised this program as Employment Insurance Second Career, but the program will direct you to the GoodWill Action Centre in your area. You can use the search button at the top of the page to search "Second Career" Click on the top link For Second Career. Complete Your Employment Action Plan for A referral. (very important) Employment Insurance have been doing this for years, and can get you started. Just make sure you fit the profile, and can show “barriers to employment.”
Employment Insurance Second Career or Goodwill Action Centre will give you a choice to apply for an “Extension of Benefits for Retrianing,” or “partial payment of tuition (70%)”.
Most College Tuitions are no more then $5000, but if your looking at University do the math it might be better. But for College take the “Extension of Benefits for Retraining,” which will give you your weekly rate for the time you are in school, Mine was ...16 weeks of School x $365/week = $5840. More than enough for one semester of tuition, books and living. But on top of that you will qualify for bursarys and grants, which is even more free money. The key aspect to receiving this is to not work during your Employment Insurance entitlement.
